Routine appointments

To book a routine appointment please call 01264 310777 or call in person at the surgery. You can also book routine appointments via Internet Patient Access but you will have to ask the surgery for a PIN code to register for this service. Routine appointments with the doctor are for 10 minutes and can be booked up to 5 weeks in advance. You may see any of the doctors although it is often helpful to keep to one doctor for one particular problem.

Urgent appointments & emergencies

Daytime: If you have an urgent medical problem and need to be seen the same day please call 01264 310777 after 8:00 a.m. and you will be given a 5 minute timed slot the same morning, either with a practice nurse or GP. A receptionist will ask you the nature of the problem at the time of booking which helps ensure the appointment is allocated to the correct clinician. All staff are bound by strict codes of confidentiality.

Out-of-hours: If you need to see a doctor urgently when the surgery is closed please phone the Out-of-Hours Service on 111. The Out-of-Hours service operates through the night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Monday to Friday, all day at weekends and Bank Holidays. Alternatively you may wish to seek advice from NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or

Telephone consultations

We offer booked telephone consultations with the doctors for advice. He or she will ring you on the telephone number you have given, usually after the end of surgery although we try to accommodate any agreed time where possible. Please ensure your mobile is switched on and not automatically directing calls to voicemail if you are waiting for a call back.

How to arrange a home visit

We ask our patients to come to the practice if at all possible where we are better equipped to examine and treat patients. We can see several patients at the surgery in the time required for one home visit. However, home visits can be arranged if your condition means you cannot attend the surgery. Please ring 01264 310777 before 11 am to arrange a visit. Please be prepared to tell the receptionist details about your condition. The Doctor will often ring you first to assess the best way to deal with your request and the degree of urgency required.

How to use the Hub

The Hub was created to offer patients a wider variety of appointment times. The Andover hub is based at the War Memorial Hospital (next to the Minor Injuries Unit) and is open from 5-8pm on weekdays, and 8am-12noon on both Saturdays and Sundays. The Winchester Primary Care Hub is open from 5-8pm on weekdays, 8am - 4pm on Saturdays and 8am -12noon on Sundays. Patients can book a routine appointment with the Hub by ringing their own GP surgery. Urgent appointments at the Hub will be booked by the out of hours GP service via NHS 111 when GP surgeries are closed. All clinicians at the hubs will have full access to the patients electronic primary care records as long as the patient has given their consent when they book their appointment. Shepherds Spring Medical Centre has no access to the Hub computer systems and so can only access information regarding our own patients.
